Historical preservation and family memory
About the project
A work devoted to preserving the memory, genealogy and historical trajectory of the Prauchner family.
The historical preservation project of the Prauchner family began through the dedicated work of Nelson Prauchner, who brought together documents, photographs, family accounts, genealogical records and historical information that, for decades, had remained scattered among relatives, personal archives and orally transmitted memories.
Driven by the desire to understand the family’s origins, Austrian immigration to Brazil and the formation of the family nucleus in Linha 6 Leste, Ijuí, Nelson began an extensive research effort based on interviews, correspondence, old documents and consultations in historical archives in Brazil and Europe.
Much of what is known today about the trajectory of the Prauchner family in Brazil could only be preserved thanks to the dedication, persistence and sense of historical responsibility of this initial work. Without that initiative, a significant part of the family memory would probably have been lost over the generations.
Years later, the project was continued by Marco Prauchner, who expanded the documentary research, digitally organised the historical archive and developed the technological structure needed to transform the material gathered into a historical and genealogical archive accessible to future generations.
The combination of the historical research begun by Nelson and the technical knowledge applied by Marco made it possible to integrate documents, photographs, Austrian records, historical maps, family trees and family accounts into an organised, multilingual digital platform.
More than a simple family website, this project seeks to function as a centre for the historical memory of the Prauchner family, preserving not only names and dates but also the human, cultural and historical context of Austro-Hungarian immigration to southern Brazil.
The work remains in constant evolution. New documents, photographs, accounts and corrections continue to be incorporated into the archive, with the aim of preserving, as faithfully as possible, the trajectory of past generations and their connection with future generations of the family.
